DURHAM, N.C.—Former Duke University men’s soccer captain John McCauley Braswell passed away while vacationing with his family in Michigan on Friday, July 26, 2013. He was 58 years old.

Braswell was a four-year letterwinner for the Blue Devils and captained the squad in 1976. He helped Duke to a 24-18-3 record from 1973-76. After graduating from Duke in 1977, Braswell went on to a career in law. He resided in Alexandria, Va. with his family and worked at Redmon, Peyton and Braswell LLP.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Calande Braswell; daughter, Morgan Sarah Braswell; father, Thomas Edward Braswell, Jr., mother, Jeff Armstrong Braswell; three brothers, Harry, Thomas, and Andrew Braswell. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 228 S. Pitt St., Alexandria, VA where services will be held on Friday, August 2 at 10 a.m. Interment to be held at a later date.
