IRVINE, Calif. – The first two days of competition at the 2013 U.S. Open saw Blue Devil swimmers take to the water in several different events.
Two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer Hunter Knight was in action Wednesday, July 31 in the preliminaries of the 200-meter breaststroke. The program record holder in that event, Knight posted a time of 2:21.06 to finish 58th. Incoming freshman Peter Kropp also competed in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries, taking 87th with a 2:34.46 clocking.
Graduate student Emily Barber went 2:34.54 in a 200 breaststroke time trial Wednesday to earn a U.S. Open cut.
Junior Stefan Knight kicked off the meet Tuesday in the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle. His time of 53.22 placed him 101st overall.
The 2013 U.S. Open continues through the weekend at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, with Barber, Hunter Knight, Kropp and incoming freshman Dylan Payne slated to swim in the 100 breaststroke Friday, Aug. 2. Freshman Lindsay Schlichte is qualified to compete in Saturday’s 1,500 freestyle while Stefan Knight and senior Lauren Weaver will close things out in the 50 freestyle.
