DURHAM, N.C.—Following a solid rookie campaign, Duke University men’s soccer freshman Brody Huitema garnered College Soccer News All-Freshman Third Team honors. Huitema led the Blue Devils in scoring this past season.
A striker, Huitema is one of seven rookies from the Atlantic Coast Conference to be selected. Duke’s offensive leader, Huitema was voted to the All-ACC third team. He was one of three freshmen to earn a spot on an All-ACC squad. The rookie striker led all Duke scorers with six goals and four assists for 16 points and ranked second among all rookies in the ACC in goals and points.
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, he tallied a career-high two goals in the Blue Devils’ come-from-behind win over Davidson and posted a goal and three assists during Duke’s eight-game unbeaten streak.
Duke finished 2013 with an 8-5-6 overall record after finishing the regular season on an eight-game unbeaten streak. The Blue Devils fell to top-ranked and NCAA semifinalist Notre Dame in a narrow 1-0 contest in the ACC Quarterfinals to close out the year.
