DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University redshirt freshman Amber Henson has been named one of two finalists for the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Most Courageous Award.

Henson, who is out of Tampa, Fla., has gone through six knee surgeries in two years after coming in with a knee injury suffered in high school at Walter L. Sickles.  A McDonald’s and WBCA All-America selection in high school, Henson scored 2,027 points and had 1,218 rebounds over four years.  The 6-4 standout played in eight games in 2011-12 before having surgery in January of 2012.

So far this season, Henson has competed in 12 contests after not playing for almost two years.  She made her first three collegiate starts against Marquette, Xavier and Central Michigan.  Henson scored a season-high four points on two different occasions against USC Upstate and Albany.

Kirsten Moore of Westmont College is the other nominee.

The award will be presented at the NCAA Final Four in Nashville, Tenn., in April.
