GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2014 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships reached their conclusion Wednesday, March 12 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with senior Nick McCrory winning his second event of the meet.

McCrory, who secured his fourth career trip to the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship with a first-place showing on the three-meter springboard Monday, turned in another outstanding performance Wednesday in the platform competition. He led the field in the preliminaries with a score of 431.35 before totaling 414.75 points in the final for a combined score of 846.10. That placed him over 60 points ahead of Auburn’s Fraser Mckean in second (781.95).

Sophomore Deon Reid advanced to his third finals event in as many days, joining McCrory in the platform final after finishing 11th in the preliminary round with a score of 288.70. A native of Long Beach, Calif., Reid picked up 309.25 points in the final to bring his total award to 597.95, good for 11th place. His highest-scoring dive of the final came in the second round when he garnered an award of 61.50 from the judges on a forward 3 ½ somersault for a 3.0 degree of difficulty.

Freshman Cole Plambeck was 17th in the platform preliminaries with a score of 245.60, while sophomore Jaimee Gundry took 14th (217.70) and freshman Kirby Quinn 25th (184.60) in the preliminaries of the women’s platform competition.

The 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship will be held March 27-29 at the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. McCrory, a three-time NCAA champion on the platform and a nine-time All-American across the three disciplines, will look to close his storied career on a high note at the national meet.
