DURHAM, N.C. – While their teammates just completed a 2-0 exhibition victory over 14th-ranked South Carolina Thursday, Duke duo Christina Gibbons and Rebecca Quinn are getting set for their quarterfinal matchups in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.  

Gibbons and the United States squad will take on Korea DPR Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5:00 p.m., in Toronto, Canada.  The match will be aired live on ESPNU and on the WatchESPN app.  The U.S. dropped its first match, 1-0, to Germany before storming back to shutout Brazil, 1-0, and China, 3-0.  

A product of Raleigh, N.C., Gibbons was inserted into the starting lineup for the U.S., in the second match and she has helped lead the U.S. into the quarterfinals by not allowing a goal on defense.  The 5-6 defender has played all 180 minutes over the last two contests.  

Quinn, who is out of Toronto, Canada, and the Canadian team will face Germany Saturday at 6:00 p.m.  It will be aired live on the WatchESPN app and played at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Canada also lost its first match of the tournament, but responded with a 3-2 win over Finland and a 1-0 victory over Korea DPR.  Quinn has started all three matches on the defensive side of the pitch.  

The Korea DPR/USA winner will advance to face the winner of the Nigeria/New Zealand winner Aug. 20, while the Germany Canada winner will take on France/Korea Republic winner also on Aug. 20.  The championship will take place Aug. 24.  

The season opener for the Duke women’s soccer team is Friday, Aug. 22 against Ohio State in Chapel Hill, N.C.
