Setting the Scene
•  Duke opens the 2014 campaign with the John Rennie Nike Invitational ... Elon, Loyola Marymount and Stetson will join the Blue Devils for a combined four games on the weekend
• This weekend will be the first games for all four teams involved

• Duke welcomes new opponents in Loyola Marymount and Stetson ... The Blue Devils have never faced the Lions and kicked off against the Hatters in a 10-0 win back in 1985.

About the Lions
• Loyola Marymount is coming off of a 13-4-3 campaign in 2013  that saw it advance to the NCAA Tournament ... The Lions lost to Stanford in a penalty kick shootout in the NCAA first round ... LMU, picked to repeat as West Coast Conference champions, had five players picked to the preseason All-WCC squad ... The Lions return the core of their 2013 squad, including the stout defensive unit that posted seven shutouts ... LMU lost to Cal State Northridge 3-2 in its lone exhibition game.

About the Hatters
• Stetson is looking to improve upon its 3-10-4 record from a year ago in which the Hatters scored only 14 goals ... The Hatters, picked to finish sixth in the A-Sun preseason poll, split their two exhibition games against Florida Central and Florida Tech ... Senior defender JJ Bostic was the lone representative on the preseason all-conference squad.

Blue Devils Take in World Cup Experience
The Duke squad had the experience of a lifetime this summer taking in World Cup action live in Rio de Janeiro ... The Blue Devils traveled to Brazil to watch three World Cup games and played in three other friendly competitions with local clubs ... The Blue Devils were lucky enough to take in Argentina vs. Bosnia, Spain vs. Chile and Russia vs. Belgium live ... The boys also were able to play a beach soccer game against Botafogo as well as see many of the beautiful sights Rio has to offer.

Successful Preseason
Duke completed a successful preseason schedule with a 3-0 record ... The Blue Devils tallied 12 goals in those three games, six of which came against Old Dominion, and allowed just three.

Breaking Down Duke’s Schedule
Duke will host 10 home games this year, including ACC battles with North Carolina and Notre Dame ... Overall, the Blue Devils will face the reigning NCAA Champion in the Fighting Irish as well as seven NCAA Tournament squads ... Duke has road matches at new ACC member Louisville, Virginia, SMU, UNC Wilmington, Wake Forest, Elon and Virginia Tech.

Duke Picked 4th in Coastal Division
For the first time in ACC soccer history, the conference will be split into two divisions ... Duke will be in the Coastal Division with Notre Dame, Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh ... The Blue Devils were tabbed to take fourth in the division with Notre Dame, Virginia and UNC filling in the top three slots ... Louisville was picked to take the top spot in the Atlantic Division ... Duke will play each of the Coastal teams and three of the squads from the Atlantic ... 10 teams will advance to the ACC Tournament in November.

Duke Scoring Returns
The Blue Devils return 84 percent of their goal scoring from a year ago to rank eighth among all Division I programs ... Duke’s top five goal scorers from 2013 are back for another season, including top point producers Brody Huitema and Sean Davis.

Davis Headlines Returners
Senior captain Sean Davis enters his final season as the undisputed leader of the Blue Devils program ... Duke’s field general, Davis was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI first team and to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America third team ... In addition, Top Drawer Soccer ranked Davis sixth among all Division I players ... He looks to build upon last season in which he finished as the Blue Devils’ second leading scorer with a career-best six goals and three assists.

Davis’ Summer of Traveling
Sean Davis was a well-traveled man this past summer, making stops in Spain, Brazil and Sweden for soccer ... Davis spent time in Spain training with a local club in May before returning to the States to head to Brazil with his Duke teammates for the World Cup ... The Homdel, N.J., native closed out his travels abroad with a training stint with a Swedish club.

New York Red Bulls Bring Home Title
In addition to his exciting soccer opportunities overseas, Sean Davis had a memorable one on home soil as he helped lead the New York Red Bulls U-23 squad to the National Premier Soccer League Championship with a 3-1 win over Chattanooga FC ... Davis played in nine games for the Red Bulls and had a goal and an assist

Duke Welcomes 13 Newcomers
The Blue Devils welcome a gigantic freshman class of 13 players in 2014 ... The rookie group hails from nine different states and two different countries, including a pair from Norway ... The 13 freshmen are tied for the fourth most among Division I teams and  make up 45 percent of Duke’s roster.

Rookies Arrive As National Champions
Freshmen Brian White and Joe Ohaus arrived to Durham for preseason camp after finishing their club soccer careers as national champions ... White and Ohaus, playing for Players Development Academy, were key contributors in leading PDA to a 2-0 win over Bethesda-Olney in the United States Soccer Development Academy Championship ... White scored a goal and assisted on the other in the title game, while Ohaus posted the shutout ... Duke freshmen Jeremy Ebobisse and Carter Manley represented Bethesda-Olney in the contest.

Ebobisse Lights It Up
Duke freshman striker Jeremy Ebobisse had a phenomenal final academy season with Bethesda-Olney ... The 6-0 forward tallied a league-best 38 goals in just 25 games in leading Bethesda to the USSDA title game ... Ebobisse had four goals in the team’s 5-3 quarterfinal win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Fjørtoft Son of Norwegian Star
Duke freshman defender Markus Fjørtoft was just a few months old when his dad made the trip with the Norwegian national team to the 1994 World Cup played in the United States ... His father, Jan åge has 71 caps for Norway, including 15 as a captain ... He played in the English Premier League as well as the Bundesliga ... He scored 20 international goals and is currently a soccer analyst as well as a manager for the Norwegian National Team.

Doll, Hing-Glover’s Stanford Sisters
Duke freshman Macario Hing-Glover and sophomore Jimmy Doll’s sisters own a NCAA title with Stanford ... Hing-Glover’s sister, Marjani, was a starting forward as a junior on the 2011 squad ... Doll’s sister, Alex, is a current senior for the Cardinal and recently provided the game-winning assist as Stanford upended North Carolina for the first time.

Ebobisse, White Top Freshman List
Jeremy Ebobisse and Brian White both were selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Best XI Freshman team following their outstanding club careers ... Both were top scorers for Bethesda-Olney and PDA, respectively ... Duke and Georgetown were the lone two schools to have to freshmen represented.

Next Up
The Blue Devils hit the road for the first time this season to play SMU Sept. 5 ... Kickoff is slated for 8:30 p.m. (EDT) ... Duke opens its ACC schedule at Louisville Sept. 13the ACC ... Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., at Ludwig Field.
