DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Athletics again joins forces with McDonald’s to present Youth Day this Saturday, October 6th, for the Duke-Wake Forest football game. The annual event brings church youth groups and youngsters to Wallace Wade Stadium for an 11:00 a.m. youth worship service with former Los Angeles Lakers forward A.C. Green serving as keynote speaker.

Green owns the NBA Iron Man title, having played in 1,192 straight games. He won three championships with the Lakers spanning three decades (in 1987, 1988 and 2000), beginning with teammates such as Showtimes’ Magic Johnson, Coach Pat Riley, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper and Kurt Rambis, and ending with Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Robert Horry, Derek Fisher and Coach Phil Jackson. He also played with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Miami Heat. Green established the A.C. Green Youth Foundation in 1989, with the main focus on sexual abstinence education.

Past speakers for Duke Youth Day have included such sports legends as Mike Krzyzewski, Pete Maravich, Julius Erving, Roger Staubach, Kyle Rote, Jr., Steve Bartkowski, and Tom Landry among others over the years.

The youth day program will run from 11:00 a.m. until noon in Wallace Wade Stadium, with the Duke-Wake Forest game kicking off at 1:00 p.m. The North gate of Wallace Wade Stadium will open at 10:00 a.m. for the youth day program. Game tickets allow fans into both the youth program and the game. Tickets remain on sale either online at www.GoDuke.com or by calling the Duke Ticket Office in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 1-877-375-DUKE or locally at (919) 681-BLUE.

McDonald’s has been a sponsor for the Blue Devils for the past 16 seasons and continues to support the department. In addition, Ronald McDonald House Charities is very involved with the University, with a Ronald McDonald House on the Duke campus and a major fund-raising campaign in place to construct a new home in Durham.

For the second straight year, Duke Athletics is also teaming with its sponsors and partners for a fun day of NASCAR promotional giveaways. Fans can register at the Coca-Cola Kids Zone in Wallace Wade Stadium during the Duke-Wake Forest game for chances to win autographed merchandise and race tickets each quarter. Alltel Wireless, Coca-Cola, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Gatorade, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Gillett Evernham Motor Sports have all joined up with Duke Athletics to provide items. Among those things being drawn for are an Alltel Racing fan package, Coca-Cola boundary totes, signed items from NASCAR drivers including Bahama native Scott Riggs, Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler, Ryan Newman, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth, and tickets to the October 28th race at Atlanta Motor Speedway and next May’s race in the O’Reilly Auto Parts suite at Darlington.
