Boozer and Langdon Selected to Alaska Sports Hall of Fame

Durham, N.C. – Former Duke men’s basketball players Carlos Boozer and Trajan Langdon have been selected to the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2008.
Boozer played basketball at Juneau-Douglas High School and was a two-time Parade All-America and a McDonald’s All-America selection. He was a four-time All-State choice and a three-time state Player of the Year. He led his team to back-to-back state championships as a sophomore and junior.
At Duke Boozer played on the 2001 National Championship team. He was an All-America pick in 2002 as well as an All-ACC choice. He helped lead the Blue Devils to ACC Championships in all three of his seasons in Durham. He was named the ACC Tournament MVP in 2002 and was twice named to the ACC All-Tournament team. In three seasons, he amassed 1,506 career points to rank 26th on Duke’s all-time scoring list. He holds the school record for highest field goal percentage (.631), making 554-of-878 from the field.
Boozer was a second round draft pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2002 NBA Draft. He played two seasons in Cleveland before moving on to the Utah Jazz where he is now in his fourth season. In 2006-07 Boozer was a NBA All-Star and averaged 20.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Through 25 games this season he is having a career year with 25.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, while shooting .578 from the floor. In his six-year NBA career he is averaging, 16.5 points and 9.9 rebounds in 339 career games.
Langdon was a high school All-America at East Anchorage High School. He scored an Alaska AAAA record 2,200 points in his career and led his team to three state championships, winning Player of the Year honors all three times. A 1994 draft pick by the San Diego Padres, he played professional baseball for three summers before coming to Duke as a non-scholarship player.
One of the top shooters in Duke history, Langdon finished his career 12th on the all-time scoring list with 1,974 points. He was an All-America selection in 1998 and 1999. He was also one of only six players in school history to earn first team All-ACC recognition three times. He ranks second on several career charts, including three-point field goals made (342), three-point field goal attempts (802), three-point field goal percentage (.426) and free throw percentage (.862).
Langdon was the 11th overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1999 NBA Draft, one of four Blue Devils selected in the first 15 picks of the first round that year. He played three seasons in the NBA, averaging 5.4 points and 1.3 assists per game in 119 career contests. He shot 91 percent (121-of-133) from the free throw line in his NBA career.
The two former Blue Devils join Joe Redington Sr., founder of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, Mark Schlereth, a three-time Super Bowl champion and current ESPN NFL analyst, and Rick Swenson, a five-time Iditarod champion, as part of a five-member class. The induction ceremony will be held at the ConocoPhillips atrium in Anchorage on Feb. 19.
