Series Notes
- No. 4/3 Duke defeated Maryland 93-84 on January 27, 2008, at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.
- Duke improves to 17-1 overall and 5-0 in the ACC while the Terps fall to 12-8 and 2-3, respectively.
- Duke leads the all-time series 102-60, including 69-39 in ACC play and 43-20 under coach Mike Krzyzewski.
- Duke is now 3-3 at the Comcast Center and 30-25 at Maryland in ACC play and broke a two-game losing streak in the building.

Milestones
- Coach K now has 719 wins at Duke and moves into a tie with UTEP’s Don Haskins for seventh place on the NCAA chart for most wins at one school. DePaul’s Ray Meyer is sixth with 724 victories. Coach K is also second among active coaches behind Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, who is fourth overall with 763 wins as the Big Orange mentor.
- Duke’s 17-1 record through 18 games matches the best in school history and marks the ninth time in program history Duke has been 17-1 (1929-30, 1991-92, 1997-98, 1998-99, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2003-04 and 2005-06). Duke has been 17-1 seven times in the last 11 years and eight total times under Coach K.

- Duke has won seven straight overall including all five of its ACC games.

- Duke matched its season high with 13 steals against the Terps. Duke also had 13 steals against Clemson on Jan. 19.
- Maryland’s 84 points, 51 first half points and 54.4 field goal percentage are all Duke opponent season highs.
- Duke’s 93 points and 32 field goals are Maryland opponent season highs.
Duke Offense
- Duke trailed 51-42 at halftime, marking the first time in 18 games this season that Duke has trailed at the half. Duke is still averaging a lead of 14.0 at half this season.
- Duke’s 42 first half points mark the 14th time in 18 games the Blue Devils scored 40 or more points. Duke is averaging 43.4 points per game in the first half this season.
- Duke’s 51 second half points is fifth time this season Duke has scored more than 50 points in the second half.
- Duke outscored Maryland 18-8 in bench scoring. Duke is averaging 30.1 points per game off the bench this season.
- Nolan Smith scored 14 points off the bench for Duke, giving the Blue Devils 23 double figure scoring games off the bench on the season. That is the 10th highest total in Duke history, tied with the 1982-83, 1986-87 and 1992-93 seasons. Ninth place is the 1989-90 season with 24 such games.
- Duke had two 20 point scorers and four in double figures including DeMarcus Nelson (27), Gerald Henderson (23), Nolan Smith (14) and Greg Paulus (12), Duke now has 14 20-point games this season and 74 double figure scoring games.
- The last time Duke had two 20-point scorers was against VCU in the 2007 NCAA Tournament on March 15, 2007, when Greg Paulus scored 25 points and Josh McRoberts added 22.
- Duke scored 29 points off of 22 Maryland turnovers while the Terps scored just 12 points off of 10 Duke turnovers. Duke has scored more points off turnovers in 13 of 18 games this season. In the last three games, Duke has scored 91 points off of 65 turnovers, an average of 30.3 points per game.
Duke Defense
- The Terps 51 points at the half is the most given up by the Blue Devils by nine points. The previous high was 42 by Clemson on Jan. 19.
- Duke held Maryland to 33 second half points and Duke outscored the Terps 51-33. Duke’s 18 point margin in the second half is the second highest of the season behind a 32 point margin against N.C. Central by a score of 67-35.
- Duke’s 18 point defensive improvement from the first half (51) to the second half (33), is the best of the season, besting a 12 point improvement (38-26) at Virginia Tech on Jan. 24.
- In the last two games, Duke has outscored its opponent 90-59, an average of 45.0 to 29.5 and a margin of 15.5 points per game.
- Duke has reached double figures in team steals in four of Duke’s five ACC games in and in five of the last six games. In the last six games, Duke has averaged 11.2 steals per game, compared to an 8.5 average for the season.
- Duke held the Terps to 4-of-12 (.333) from behind the arc. In ACC play, Duke’s opponents are just 17-of-64 (.266) and on the season, just 84-of-283 (.297). Duke’s opponents are averaging just 3.4 three-pointers per game in ACC play.
Coach K
- Coach K is now 792-262 as a head coach, ranking sixth on the NCAA wins chart and third among active coaches. Eddie Sutton is fifth overall and second among active coaches with 799 wins while first overall is Coach K’s college coach, Bob Knight, with 901 wins.
- With 792 career wins in his first 33 seasons, Coach K is currently second on the NCAA’s list of most victories in a coaches’ first 33 season. He trails Dean Smith, who had 802 wins through 33 seasons.
- Coach K now has 792 wins in 1,054 career games and is looking to become the third-fastest coach to 800 wins based on number of games. Adolph Rupp (972) and Dean Smith (1,029) are already out of reach and Bobby Knight is currently third, accomplishing the feat in (1,102 games).
DeMarcus Nelson
- The senior scored a career-high 27 points, shooting 10-of-19 from the field, 1-of-2 from behind the arc and 6-of-8 from the line. He added seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block in 38 minutes.
- Nelson’s 10 field goals made ties his season and career highs while his four steals is a new season high, as well.
- Nelson has five 20 point games this season all in the last nine games. He has eight career 20-point games.
- Nelson has reached double figures in three straight games and 10 of the last 11 games and 58 times in his career.
- Nelson led Duke in scoring for the fifth time, rebounds for the sixth time, assists for the sixth time and steals for the seventh time. He’s the first Blue Devil to lead the team in four of the five main categories (blocks) since Josh McRoberts led the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks against Maryland on Feb. 28, 2007.
- Nelson is shooting 34-of-61 (.557) in ACC play this season and 94-of-185 (.508) on the season.
- Nelson now has 1,108 career points, becoming the 45th player in Duke history to score 1,100 or more points and also ranks 45th on the career chart. He passed current assistant coach Chris Collins (1,091 – 1993-96), Howard Hurt (1,095 – 1959-61) and Kevin Strickland (1,095 – 1985-88) in the game. Nate James is immediately ahead in 44th place with 1,116 points while Willie Hodge is in 43rd with 1,117.
Kyle Singler
- The freshman had a rough game from the field, hitting 2-of-10 from the field, but did connect on 1-of-5 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
- He has hit at least one three in seven straight games and in 12 of the last 13.
- He has connected on 11 of his last 12 free throws over the last six games and is now 51-of-64 (.797) on the season.
Greg Paulus
- The junior scored 12 points, hitting 3-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 from the line. He added four steals and two assists with just one turnover.
- He has now connected on 23 straight free throws and is 14-of-14 in ACC play. He has connected on 33-of-37 (.892) on the season.
- Paulus has 61 assists to just 29 turnovers on the season for a 2.10 ratio. In the last seven games, he has 21 assists to just seven turnovers for a 3.33 ratio.
- Paulus has now hit a three-pointer in 17 of 18 games this season and in 45 of 51 games dating back to the start of his sophomore campaign.
- Paulus has eight games scoring in double figures this season, including two straight, and 40 such games in his career.
- Paulus matched his season high and was just one off his career high with four takeaways against Maryland.
Gerald Henderson
- The sophomore scored a career-high tying 23 points, shooing 9-of-12 from the field, 1-of-2 from behind the arc and 4-of-6 from the line. He added five rebounds and two blocks, as well.
- Henderson has reached 20 points three times this season and in his career.
- Henderson has reached double figures in five straight games and seven of the last eight, and in 15 games this season and 21 in his career.
- Henderson has been successful in reaching the charity stripe of late, reaching the free throw line 24 times in the last three games (8.0 per game).
Nolan Smith
- The freshman scored 14 points, hitting 4-of-6 from the field, 1-of-2 from behind the arc, and 5-of-5 from the line. He added six rebounds in 20 minutes.
- Smith now has four games scoring in double figures.
