Los Angeles, Calif. Ė The Duke men’s tennis team got back on track Monday with a 6-1 victory over Loyola Marymount at the LMU Tennis Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

With the victory the Blue Devils snap a five-game losing streak and improve to 3-5 on the year while the Lions fall to 4-5 overall. 

Duke got off to a good start with wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles positions to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At No. 3 Alain Michel and Jared Pinsky played together for just the second time this season and earned an 8-4 win over Johan Berhof and Nick Von Der Ahe. Dylan Arnould and Alex Stone then downed Renzo Maggi and Ivan Lopez 8-4 at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point.

The Blue Devils took five of the six singles matches. Senior David Goulet, ranked No. 48 in the ITA singles rankings, took the No. 1 contest 6-3, 6-2 against Jacek Twarowski to open up singles. Goulet became the third Duke player with double digit win totals this season, improving to 10-3 with the victory and 6-2 in dual match play.

Loyola Marymount’s Ivan Lopez pulled LMU to within 2-1 with by winning 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 against Kiril Dimitrov, who was back in the lineup after missing the last two matches due to an illness. However, it was all Blue Devils the rest of the way as they won the final four singles matches for the 6-1 win.

Dylan Arnould earned a three-set win 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 against Sam Tadevosian. He is now 9-9 overall in singles play this year. Pinsky clinched the match victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 to even his overall record to 5-5 for the season. Stone improved to 5-11 on the year with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Johan Berhof at No. 5. Michel also won in straight sets, defeating Aris Andreasian 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.    

The Blue Devils will play two more matches this week in Southern California. Next up they will have No. 6 UCLA at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They will then face No. 10 USC on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
