Tallahassee, Fla. – The Duke men’s tennis team played their third road match in five days on Sunday and came up short against No. 7 Florida State, 6-1, at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Blue Devils have now played their last seven matches on the road with three of those coming against teams ranked in the top-10 of the ITA team rankings.

Florida State controlled the match from start to finish. After winning all three doubles matches, the Seminoles took a 6-0 lead in the match with victories in the top five singles spots. Four of the five wins came in straight sets.

Duke’s only win on the day came at the No. 6 position. Freshman Jared Pinsky lost his first set by a 6-2 margin but rallied back to win the final two sets 6-3, 6-4 to help the Blue Devils avoid a shutout. With the win Pinsky improves to 6-8 overall in singles and is now 2-1 in the sixth spot of the order.

The Blue Devils, ranked No. 66 in the nation, drop their first ACC contest of the year to fall to 2-1 in conference play and are now 5-8 on the season. The Seminoles are now 4-1 in league play and 13-3 overall.

Duke will have three more road matches in the following week. Their next match comes on Wednesday when they travel to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest at 3 p.m.
