No. 9 Duke Rolls Past Virginia, 7-0, To End Regular Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The ninth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team concluded the 2008 regular season with a 7-0 win over 48th-ranked Virginia at the Snyder Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Duke ends the regular season with an overall mark of 16-3 (9-2 ACC). Seedings and matchups for the ACC Tournament, slated for April 17-20 in Orlando, Fla., will be announced on Monday.

Doubles action versus the Cavaliers saw Lindsey Pereira and Maggie Yahner upset the No. 5 Duke tandem of Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson, 8-4, at the No. 1 position, but the Blue Devils won at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the initial point and go ahead 1-0.

In singles, Duke won all six matches in straight sets, including a match-clinching win by senior Tory Zawacki at No. 6 as she defeated Hampton Williams, 6-2, 6-4, for the team victory.
