After being selected as the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, sophomore Christopher Manno picked up three national awards, including NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week honors.

DURHAM, N.C. – After being named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, Duke sophomore Christopher Manno collected three national honors for his performance last week, including National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)  National Pitcher of the Week, Ping! Baseball’s Spotlight Performer of the Week and a spot in the College Baseball Foundation’s Weekly All-Star Lineup.

Manno (4-0) fanned 16 batters over 7.2 scoreless innings during the week, including a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 10-1 win over Clemson on Saturday, April 19. In his first weekend start of the season, the 6-1, 160 pound sophomore held the Tigers to four hits over 5.2 shutout innings on the way to his fourth win of the season. Of the 23 batters Manno faced against Clemson, only eight put balls in play.

The scoreless outing against Clemson followed two perfect innings in a combined no-hitter against N.C. Central on Tuesday in which Manno struck out four consecutive hitters on the way to retiring all six batters he faced. He was pulled after the second inning with the intention of starting Saturday’s game against Clemson.

The scoreless starts extended a streak of 12.2 scoreless innings for the Brooklyn, N.Y., native, who has not allowed a run to score in his last three starts. He improved to 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA and is now averaging 14.22 strikeouts per nine innings (59 K in 37.1 IP), which leads the ACC. He is holding the opposition to a .239 batting average, aided by just five hits allowed in his last three starts.

Manno joins Mike Kotarski, who was Mizuno National Pitcher of the Week in 1992, and Kevin Thompson, who collected Collegiate Baseball National Pitcher of the Week honors in 2003, as the only Blue Devils to earn a national pitcher of the week award. He is the second Blue Devil this season to earn a spot on the College Baseball Foundation’s Weekly All-Star Lineup, joining classmate Alex Hassan who appeared on the weekly lineup on March 19.
