FAIRFAX, Va. - The Duke rowing team notched wins in the collegiate eight and collegiate four and finished among the top two in all four events it entered at the Head of the Occoquan on the Occoquan Reserve Saturday afternoon.

Duke's collegiate eight took top honors in the field of 28 boats, posting a time of 17:36.96 which was just over five seconds faster than second-place finisher Navy. In the collegiate four, Duke took the top two spots out of 35 entries with the A boat finishing with a time of 19:26.23 to edge the Duke B Boat which posted a 19:42.14.

"It was a great day for our program," said head coach Robyn Horner. "Every athlete contributed to Duke's success. It was a great introduction to racing for our novice athletes, and our varsity athletes executed their race plans very well. We are looking forward to taking the experience we gained this weekend with us to next weekend's Head of the Hooch where will see some very high caliber racing."

Duke's novice team made its competitive debut at the Occoquan and shined, with the A entry in the novice eight taking second place out of 27 boats with a time of 19:50.16. The A entry in the novice four fared just as well, taking second place out of 20 boats with a time of 22:34.39.

Also finishing just outside of the top five medal-winners in the collegiate eight was Duke's B entry, which posted an 18:24.53. That was six seconds behind fifth-place finisher Georgetown and over 11 seconds ahead of seventh-place finisher George Mason.
