DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling team looks to continue its strong start to the 2009-10 season this weekend at a pair of events. The Blue Devils will compete at the NC State Open on Nov. 21 and at the Keystone Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
The Keystone Classic will feature Peter Terrezza, Mike Bell, Brent Jorge, Dak Adamson, Dan Adamo, Voris Tejada, Jared Sernoffsky, Diego Bencomo, John Barone and Konrad Dudziak. Competing at the NC State open will be David Henry, Riley Adamson, Bret Klopp, Nick Adamo, Ben Wales, Chris Mullen and Andrew Fulk.
In search of his third consecutive title, Jorge will line up at 149 pounds for the Blue Devils. Jorge sports and 11-0 overall record and is coming off of a 6-0 weekend at the Pembroke Classic. Joining Jorge at 149 pounds will be redshirt freshman Dak Adamson, who will be competing for the first time this season.
Redshirt seniors Barone and Dudziak will anchor the 197 and 285-pound divisions. Barone, ranked 15th nationally among 184-pound wrestlers, is competing up a class for the second straight week. The native of Shirley, N.Y., earned runner-up honors at the Pembroke Classic after posting three consecutive falls.
Dudziak will be going for his second tournament crown of the year. Earning the nation's top ranking at heavyweight this week, Dudziak won the Hokie Open in his first outing, defeating No. 6 David Marone of Virginia Tech in the finals.
Competing at 184 pounds, Bencomo takes an 8-1 record to the Keystone Classic. Bencomo grabbed first place at the Citadel Open to start the year and finished in third at the Pembroke Classic.
Tejada and Sernoffsky will battle at 174 pounds. Sernoffsky is coming off of a strong showing at the Pembroke Classic, posting a 4-2 record and advancing to the quarterfinal round of the wrestleback draw. Tejada opened the year with a third-place showing at the Hokie Open and is 4-3 overall on the season.
Terrezza will line up at 125 pounds with a 6-3 overall record and a fifth-place showing at the Hokie Open. Bell had a good weekend at the Pembroke Classic a week ago and will battle at 141 pounds for the Blue Devils. Redshirt sophomore Dan Adamo rounds out the lineup for the Keystone Classic at 157 pounds.
Competing unattached this season, Henry, Riley Adamson, Klopp and Nick Adamo all will head to the NC State Open. Henry has captured titles at both the Citadel Open and Pembroke Classic, while Riley sports a 6-5 mark. Klopp is 10-3 overall and recently finished sixth at the Pembroke Classic. Nick sports a 1-2 mark after one weekend of competition.
