DURHAM, N.C. – Five former Duke football players – Thaddeus Lewis, Vince Oghobaase, Ayanga Okpokowuruk, Vincent Rey and Leon Wright – have signed free agent contracts with respective organizations from the National Football League.

Lewis inked with the St. Louis Rams, Oghobaase with the Miami Dolphins and Rey with the Cincinnati Bengals while both Okpokowuruk and Wright signed with the New York Giants.

Lewis, a quarterback from Opa-Locka, Fla., established or matched 54 schools records including career pass completions (877), pass attempts (1,510), passing yards (10,065) and passing touchdowns (67) while playing in 47 career games.  A two-time second team All-ACC selection, he was one of five finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award in 2009 after throwing for 3,330 yards and 20 touchdowns.  His 10,065 passing yards rank as the second-highest career total in ACC history.

Oghobaase, a defensive lineman from Houston, Texas, appeared in 44 career games for the Blue Devils and recorded 165 tackles, 36.5 tackles for loss and 14.0 quarterback sacks.  A third team All-America pick by Sporting News in 2009, he twice earned honorable mention All-ACC honors and finished his career ranking among the school’s all-time leaders in both sacks (fifth) and tackles for loss (sixth).

Okpokowuruk, a defensive lineman from Charlotte, N.C., played in 47 career games and amassed 108 tackles along with 19.5 tackles for loss and 10.0 quarterback sacks.  As a senior in 2009, he lead the Blue Devils in both tackles for loss (9.5) and sacks (6.0).

Rey, a linebacker from Far Rockaway, N.Y., saw action in 48 games and is one of 13 players in Blue Devil history to compile over 300 career tackles.  A second team All-ACC choice in 2009, he closed his career with 330 tackles, 28.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions while setting school records for fumble returns for a touchdown in both a season (2 in 2008) and career (3).

Wright, a defensive back from St. Petersburg, Fla., played in 41 career games as a Blue Devil and posted 155 tackles, 20 pass breakups and 10 interceptions.  In 2009, he received honorable mention All-ACC accolades after compiling 58 stops and five interceptions and, on September 12, 2009, returned interceptions for touchdowns on consecutive plays from scrimmage to help seal Duke’s 35-19 victory over Army.  His 10 career interceptions rank in a tie for sixth-most on Duke’s career list.
