DURHAM, N.C.-Two members of the Duke University wrestling team were selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic team for the 2009-10 season. The Blue Devils also ranked fourth among all NCAA Division I programs in grade point average on the NWCA Division I All-Academic Top 30 list.

Senior John Barone and sophomore Peter Terrezza garnered the NWCA All-Academic Team honor after outstanding seasons on the mat and in the classroom. Both also were selected to the All-ACC Academic Team. As a team, Duke finished fourth with a team GPA of 3.2255.

Barone compiled a 17-9 overall record competing primarily at 197 pounds. The Shirley, N.Y., native grabbed runner-up honors at the Pembroke Classic and Keystone Classic this season and finished the year 8-3 in dual matches. He climbed to the top of the Duke records book, setting marks for career victories with a 123-41 overall record. A history and religion major with a 3.42 GPA, Barone also holds the top two single-season performances, winning 36 in 2008-09 and 35 in 2007-08. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree on Sunday, May 16.

Anchoring the lineup at 125 pounds, Terrezza finished the year with a 16-11 overall record and a 6-4 mark in dual matches. He took fifth at the Hokie Open to start the season and posted a fourth-place finish at the ACC Tournament. A native of New Providence, N.J., Terrezza is history major with a 3.64 GPA and was one of 10 true sophomores to earn a spot on the team.

To qualify for the All-Academic team, a wrestler must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and either been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his total schedule - and must have competed in at least 60 percent of said schedule. The other way to qualify for the All-Academic team is to have a 3.0 GPA and been an NCAA All-American.
