Awards and Benefits

General Restrictions on the Types of Awards
  • May not include cash.
  • Must be uniform.
  • Must be eligible to compete to receive.
  • Cannot be sold, exchanged or assigned for another item of value.
  • Limits on number and value.
An eligible student-athlete may receive actual and necessary travel expenses to represent the institution in athletics competition, provided the student-athlete departs for the competition no earlier than 48 hours prior to the start of the actual competition and remains no more than 36 hours following the conclusion of the actual competition even if the student-athlete does not return with the team.

The institution may provide the cost of actual and necessary expenses for the spouse and children of an eligible student-athlete to accompany the student-athlete to a licensed postseason football game or an NCAA football championship in which the student-athlete is a participant.

In other sports, the institution may provide actual and necessary expenses to one round of any NCAA championship in which the student-athlete is a participant.

Actual and Necessary Expenses May Include
  • Transportation
  • Lodging
  • Meals
  • Expenses associated with team entertainment functions
