Blue Defeats White 8-6 on Wednesday

DURHAM, N.C. - As the Duke baseball team continues fall practice this week, the Blue Devils held an intrasquad game on Wednesday morning at Jack Coombs Field.

In Wednesday's intrasquad game, the Blue Team used a six-run third inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to an 8-6 win over the White Team.

Sophomore Jordan Betts led the Blue Team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. His two-run homer in the third highlighted the six-run frame. Junior Marcus Stroman, junior Jeff Kremer and freshman Grant McCabe had two hits apiece. Freshman Reed Anthes and junior Ryan Munger both added a hit in the win, while sophomore Angelo LaBruna had an RBI and a run scored.

Freshman Andrew Istler picked up the win after holding the White Team to two runs on five hits in four innings of work. Freshman Nick Piscotty pitched two scoreless innings of relief in the win.

Sophomore Dillon Haviland finished 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored for the White Team. Sophomore Chris Marconcini added two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Anthony D'Alessandro went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Sophomore Matt Berezo, senior Will Piwnica-Worms, sophomore Aaron Cohn and sophomore Mike Rosenfeld all had one hit in the game.

Freshmen Trent Swart and Dalton Brown pitched well for the White Team. Swart held the Blue Team to one unearned run on two hits in three and a third innings, while Brown tossed a shutout inning in his only frame.
