Cunha, who moved up five spots to No. 2 in the latest ITA rankings, remained unbeaten in No. 1 singles play as the Blue Devils upset No. 8 UCLA, 4-2, in the tournament's opening round and swept No. 5 Florida, 4-0, in consolation play. Duke (9-1) also suffered a 4-0 loss to top-ranked Southern California in Saturday's quarterfinals. Cunha improved to 8-0 in dual match singles play with straight-set victories over No. 39 Nick Meister of UCLA (6-2, 6-4) and No. 40 Bob van Overbeek of Florida (6-2, 6-0).
The Jaú, Brazil, native also recently entered the doubles rankings, coming in at No. 13 nationally along with sophomore Fred Saba. The duo notched an 8-3 upset of ninth-ranked Nassam Slilam and Billy Federhofer in Sunday's consolation match against the Gators to move to 5-2 on the spring from the No. 1 position and collect their third win over a ranked doubles pair this season.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, March 3 at VCU.
