DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University sophomore attackmen Josh Dionne and Jordan Wolf combined for seven goals and freshman goaltender Kyle Turri made seven stops to lead the 10th-ranked Blue Devils to a 12-8 victory over No. 17 Penn in men's lacrosse action this evening at Koskinen Stadium. Dionne led Duke with four goals.

Dionne led the way with a career-high four goals, while Wolf added his first hat trick of the season. Five other Blue Devils had one goal apiece with CJ Costabile, Robert Rotanz and Christian Walsh finishing with two points apiece.  Turri picked up his first career win in a Blue Devil uniform.

"I just felt really comfortable," Turri said. "With Mike [Manley] down there and Chris and Billy to start the game I just felt really comfortable. I knew that they weren't going to give up any shots and we practiced well all week and I knew we were going to stop them."

"Coach [John] Galloway just told me to relax," Turri said. "I practiced well all week and I knew with the experience of the defense in front of me I knew it was going to be alright."

The game started with the two squads trading goals in the first four minutes. Duke needed just seven seconds to get on the board as Costabile finished a pass from Rotanz right off the faceoff for his second goal of the year.  John Conneely put Penn on the scoreboard 1:47 later with man-up score off an assist from Tim Schwalje. Just 14 seconds later, Wolf gave Duke the lead again with an unassisted goal.

After Penn (0-1) evened the score with an extra-man goal from Dan Savage at the 11:04 mark, Duke went on a five-goal run to stretch the lead to 7-2 with 12:31 remaining in the second period. Savage led all scorers with three goals and two assists for five points.

In that five-goal stretch, the Blue Devils held Penn scoreless for 21:14, while four different Duke players tallied goals.

The Quakers fought back to cut the lead to three, 7-4, with a pair of goals in a span of 2:25. However, Dionne notched his second goal of the day in the final minutes of the quarter to send Duke into the locker room ahead 8-4.

Walsh opened the third quarter with his third goal of the year to give Duke a 9-4 lead before Penn took advantage of a man-up opportunity to score two unanswered to make it 9-6 with 5:27 left in the third frame.

The Blue Devils defense stayed strong and Dionne threw in two goals in 53 seconds as Duke pulled away 11-6 after 45 minutes of play. Freshman Will Haus recorded his first career point, providing an assist to Dionne.

"With [Jordan Wolf] dodging hard from X, the biggest thing for me is just finding seams and moving around and working off the ball," Dionne said. "[Jordan] just pushes so hard in there and there were a couple of times where I just went back pipe and he just slipped it in and everything worked out. Then man-up, same thing, finding the lanes, that's all it is."

Penn outscored Duke 2-1 in the fourth quarter with Ryan Parietti and Drew Belinsky getting on the Quakers. Rotanz rounded out Duke's scoring with an unassisted goal that put Duke back in front by five with six minutes to play.

Duke dominated the faceoff game, winning 18-of-24 draws. Costabile won 10-of-14 restarts and had seven ground balls, while Brendan Fowler won 8-of-10 and had five pickups. Duke controlled the ground ball game, picking up 45 to Penn's 23. The Quakers were 5-of-9 on man-up opportunities, while Duke was held 0-for-5.

In goal, Turri finished with seven saves on 15 shots on goal. He also registered a ground ball and a caused turnover. Penn's Brian Feeney had 11 saves in 60 minutes of action.
