DURHAM, N.C. - Duke freshman Beatrice Capra has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week of the 2012 season after leading a strong team finish that featured three ranked wins in singles and a pair of ranked wins in doubles.

The nation's second-ranked player, Capra had one of her best weeks of the season, picking up three singles victories over ranked opponents playing in the No.1 spot, while leading third-ranked Duke to the ACC regular season title and undefeated mark in conference play. In Thursday's showdown with ACC rival and fifth-ranked North Carolina, Capra cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over 34th-ranked Lauren McHale in leading the Blue Devils to a 4-0 shutout of the Tar Heels. The Ellicott City, Md., native followed up with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 win over Boston College's Erina Kikuchi, the nation's 110th-ranked player, as Duke rolled to a 7-0 sweep of the Eagles on Saturday afternoon. Capping off the weekend, Capra won a tough 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 decision over 26th-ranked Cristina Stancu of Maryland, propelling Duke to a 6-1 victory. The newcomer is 24-3 overall this season, owns an 18-1 mark in dual matches, a 9-0 record in ACC play and a 15-3 ledger against ranked oppponents.

In doubles, Capra and sophomore teammate Rachel Kahan, the nation's 28th-ranked unit, went 3-0 on the weekend, including wins over two top-50 tandems. The duo defeated North Carolina's 47th-ranked Haley Hemm and Tessa Lyons, 8-5, and Boston College's Olga Khymlev and Katarina Gajiic, 8-3, playing in the No. 2 spot, before upsetting Maryland's 26th-ranked Welma Luus and Ana Belzunce, 8-1, in the No. 1 spot. Capra and Kahan improved to 16-5 overall and 6-2 against ranked doubles teams.

After earning the No. 1 seed in next weekend's ACC Tournament, the Blue Devils receive a first round bye and will play Friday, Apr. 21 at 9 a.m., against the winner of Thursday's match between the eighth-seeded Boston College and ninth-seeded N.C. State. The ACC Tournament will be held at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
