ATHENS, Ga. - The draws for the 2012 NCAA Div. I Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships were released Tuesday, with the first round of singles set to begin on Wednesday, May 23 and the first round of doubles on Thursday, May 24 at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Freshman Beatrice Capra and sophomore Hanna Mar were both selected to the 64-player singles field, with Capra earning the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament. Capra will face Vanderbilt's Jackie Wu, the nation's 42nd-ranked player, on Thursday at 10 a.m., while Mar will compete against the same player she met in Duke's 4-3 NCAA semifinal loss to Florida, in the Gators' Joanna Mather at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday evening. Mar is currently ranked No. 59 in the country, while Mather is ranked No. 21.
Capra owns a 29-4 overall record this year and a 20-3 mark against ranked opponents, while Mar is 30-14 and 10-10 against ranked players.
In doubles, Capra and sophomore Rachel Kahan, ranked 17th, will take on Georgia's 27th-ranked Chelsey Gullickson and Nadja Gilchrist, while junior Mary Clayton and freshman Ester Goldfeld, ranked No. 21 as a doubles team, will square off against California's fifth-ranked Annie Goransson and Anett Schutting in their first round matchup.
Capra and Kahan are 21-6 as a unit this season, and 9-3 against ranked doubles teams, while Clayton and Goldfeld are 16-13 overall.
