To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore who has excelled athletically while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.30. Fifteen student-athletes from cross country and track and field were named to the 2012 squad. Since the program's inception in 1952, over 15,000 student athletes from all three divisions and all of the NCAA championship sports have earned the prestigious honor.
For his career, Beach has maintained a 3.51 GPA. On the track, the Albuquerque, N.M., native has been equally impressive, winning both the 2012 NCAA and ACC Indoor Track and Field Heptathlon. Beach set the ACC record with 6,130 points in the event and broke the men's heptathlon 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:23.63 en route to the NCAA crown.
Outdoors, the psychology major earned 2012 All-America honors in both the long jump and 800. He also earned All-ACC honors in the decathlon earlier this spring.
Beach will compete in the decathlon at the 2012 Olympic Trials this weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
