CLEVELAND, Ohio – In the first round of match play at the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur, Duke University incoming freshman Celine Boutier cruised to a 4&3 victory over Mathilda Poulsen on Wednesday afternoon at the 6,512-yard, par 72 The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

With the victory, Boutier will next face Karen Chung, who posted a 4&3 win over Brooke Mackenzie on Wednesday.  Boutier and Chung will start their match at 9:00 a.m., on Thursday morning.  The winner will play in the round of 16 in the afternoon.

Boutier got off to a hot start on Wednesday against Poulsen as she won the second hole with a par, but lost the next hole with a par to get the match at all square.   Both golfers birdied No. 4 and Boutier went on to win the sixth, eighth and ninth holes to go 3-up.  Boutier, who is out of Montrouge, France, netted a par on the 12th hole to go 4-up and closed the match with a par on the 15th.  She shot one-under-par through 15 holes on the afternoon.

Duke has registered two U.S. Women’s Amateur champions in the past as Amanda Blumenherst won in 2008 and Virada Nirapathpongporn in 2003.

Fans can follow the action on the Golf Channel Aug. 9-12 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
