Duke Sweeps Doubles at Fab Four Invite

CARY, N.C. - On the second day of the Duke Fab Four Invitational, the Blue Devils men's tennis team cruised to three easy victories in the doubles finals and had six individuals advance to the three singles draw finals.

Top-ranked Henrique Cunha cruised to the finals of the blue singles bracket, defeating N.C. State's Dave Thompson 6-1, 6-3. In the semifinals the senior defeated VCU's Max Wennakoski , 6-1, 6-2. He will face teammate Jason Tahir in the finals, after Tahir defeated Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer and fellow teammate Josh Levine, in the men's singles blue draw.

Junior Chris Mengel will compete against teammate Raphael Hemmeler in the men's singles black draw. Mengel defeated Elon's Stefan Fortman, 6-3, 6-3, and N.C. State's Sean Weber, 6-2, 6-0 Saturday. Hemmeler defeated N.C. State's Ivan Sanchez-Gomez, 6-4, 6-4, and Alabama's Daniil Proskura, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.

In the men's white singles draw, freshman Michael Redlicki will face teammate Fred Saba in the finals. Redlicki defeated Radford's Nicholas Sayer, 6-4, 6-4. In the semifinals, he defeated Kentucky's Anthony Rossi in a walkover. Saba advanced to the finals by defeating Alabama's Becker O'Shaugnessy, 6-2, 6-4. In the semis, Saba defeated Elon's Cameron Silverman, 7-6, 6-4.

In the morning, the Blue Devils earned three titles in the doubles draw. The duo of Redlicki and Tahir defeated N.C. State's Thompson and Weber in the white doubles draw, 8-3. In the blue doubles draw, Cunha and Hemmeler defeated Elon's Silverman and Fortman, 8-2. Mengel and Saba defeated Radford's Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen, 8-3, in the black doubles draw finals.

The freshmen pair of Daniel McCall and Levine earned their first win as a doubles team of their as they defeated North Carolina's James Coxe and Stuart Depaolo, 8-3, in the third-place consolation match of the white doubles draw.

The finals will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
