DURHAM, N.C. – The newly named No. 1 ranked Duke women’s golf team will tee off in the opening round of the Liz Murphey Fall Preview on Friday, which will be held from Oct. 5-7 at the 6,335-yard, par 72 University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Seeing action in the fall preview will be Alabama, Auburn, California, Denver, Duke, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Purdue, South Carolina, Southern California, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Tulane, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
The tournament will feature 54 holes of golf with 18 holes each day. The Blue Devils will open the action on Friday off hole No. 10 beginning at 8:00 a.m., along with Tennessee and Texas A&M.
Duke is coming off registering a second place finish at the Cougar Classic as the Blue Devils shot a seven-under-par, 281, from Sept. 9-11 in Charleston, S.C. Duke collected two golfers in the top 10 as senior Lindy Duncan was second with a career-best nine-under-par, 207, while freshman Yi Xiao was tied for 10th with a two-under-par, 214. Xiao, who is from China, became just the 10th Blue Devil freshman since 1989 to notch a top 10 finish in her first collegiate tournament.
The Liz Murphey includes many of the top finishers at the 2012 NCAA Championship and serves as a preview of the 2013 championship as Georgia will host the final event of the 2013 season from May 21-24.
The Blue Devils will feature a lineup at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview that includes Duncan, Xiao, senior Stacey Kim, junior Laetitia Beck and freshman Celine Boutier. Boutier, who is a native of Montrouge, France, is recently returned from Turkey where she competed in the Women’s World Amateur Championship. She finished tied 12th overall in the event.
