PORTLAND, Ore. – Junior Marianne Jodoin and sophomore Annie Mulholland are set to represent the Blue Devils at the USTA Collegiate Invitational Nov. 2-4 in Portland, Oregon. The three-day tournament, held at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, is a unique round-robin singles format in which players are divided into eight groups consisting of three college student-athletes and one junior player. Jodoin and Mulholland will also compete in the doubles tournament on Friday and Saturday.
In singles play, each player will face every other player in their group Friday and Saturday with the top player in each group then advancing to a single elimination “shoot-out” on Sunday. The winner of the shootout will receive a wildcard to a future USTA Pro Circuit event designated by USTA Player Development.
Mulholland, ranked 108th in the country, owns a 4-4 singles record and a 7-2 doubles record on the season, highlighted by a trip to the doubles championship match at the Duke Fab 4 Invitational. Mulholland, who grew up in Portland and attended the Pendleton School, posted a 19-7 singles record last season including a perfect 5-0 record in ACC play.
Jodoin, a native of Varennes, Quebec, currently owns a 5-5 on this fall for Duke including a 3-3 record against nationally ranked opponents - highlighted by a win over No. 71 Caroline Price at the Duke Fab 4 Invitational. Tewenty-seventh ranked Jodoin joined the Blue Devils this season after playing for two years at Fresno State where she tallied a 37-10 overall record in singles and a perfect 14-0 record in conference play. Jodoin earned WAC Player of the Year twice, a two-time First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament team in both singles and doubles while at Fresno State.
In the first match of the group stage on Friday, No. 27 Jodoin is set to face Makenzie Craft of Georgia while No. 108 Mulholland is slated to play Kyle McPhillips of UCLA. Jodoin and Mulholland will also team up in the doubles tournament on Friday and are set to face UCLA’s McPhillips and Skylar Morton.
