DURHAM, N.C. - After earning second and fifth-place finishes, respectively, at the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships last weekend in Blacksburg, Va., the men's and women's cross country teams will send runners to the Three Stripe Invitational Saturday, Nov. 3 in Cary, N.C. The annual meet, hosted by NC State at the WakeMed Cross Country Course, will begin with the men's race at 11 a.m., followed by the women's race at 11:30 a.m.
The Blue Devil women, currently ranked 10th in the nation and tops in the Southeast Region according to the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association polls, will race six runners Saturday morning. Seniors Cydney Ross and Adrianne Soo, juniors Ashley Berry and Dana Morin, sophomore Abby Farley and freshman Olivia Anderson are set to compete for Duke, while freshman Anima Banks will run unattached.
The Duke men, listed seventh in the most recent USTFCCCA Southeast Region rankings, will race eight Blue Devils Saturday - senior Joseph Elsakr, junior Spencer Pecha, sophomores Nate McClafferty and Brian Schoepfer and freshmen William Hague, Eddie Merenda, Daniel Moore and William Rooney.
Both squads will also continue to train in preparation for the NCAA Southeast Regional, slated for Friday, Nov. 9 at McAlpine Park in Matthews, N.C. The teams are inviting anyone interested in attending the race to ride the fan bus, which will be departing Cameron Indoor Stadium at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 and return to campus around 5 p.m. Cost is $20 per person, and the bus can transport a maximum of 54 people.
