Rooney, a freshman from Darien, Conn., was the first affiliated runner to cross the line in the men's 5K race Saturday at the WakeMed Cross Country Course. He turned in a time of 15:21 to guide the Blue Devils to a first-place finish ahead of NC State and East Carolina.
Ross, a graduate student from St. Louis, Mo., clocked a personal-best time of 18:03 to win the women's 5K race. Her performance helped the Duke women edge NC State and Elon for the team title.
Both Rooney and Ross garnered ACC Cross Country Performer of the Week honors for the first time in their respective careers.
The Blue Devils travel to Matthews, N.C. on Friday, Nov. 9 to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional at McAlpine Park. Fans interested in riding a fan bus to the race should contact assistant coach Tom Cuffe (tcuffe@duaa.duke.edu). Cost for riding the bus to and from the meet will be $20.
