DURHAM, N.C. - Duke Athletics stands in 17th place in the initial fall Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics today.

Overall, Duke has 116 points and ranks fifth among private institutions behind only Princeton (1st, 195), Stanford (2nd, 168), Syracuse (8th, 143) and Providence College (tie-14th, 119). Four current Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked among the top 17 – Florida State (3rd), Virginia (12th), North Carolina (tie-14th) and Duke (17th). Duke was in 30th place in the first fall standings a year ago. The Blue Devils ended up with a 16th-place finish in 2011-12.

Duke received points from its women’s (72 points) and men’s (44 points) cross country teams that finished seventh and 30th, respectively, at the NCAA Championships.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women’s and 10 men’s.

The next standings release date is December 13. For a complete listing of the current standings, please go to the following link:
