Junior Eneka Lamb updated GoDuke.com about the Duke swimming team's training trip to Barbados. Check back to the website and follow the Blue Devils on Twitter (@Duke_SWIM_DIVE) for more details from the team's workouts and activities in Barbados.
We've been training, tanning and tumbling in the waves! Saturday morning after a long aerobic practice, many of us ate breakfast then headed straight to the pool or the beach. Afternoon practice came quickly enough, and so the women headed to the weight room while the men swam. Although part of the Olympic Training Center, the weight room was slightly smaller than we're used to. However we managed to stay flexible and had a great lift!
After weights, the women joined the men in the pool for a kick set and finished out the workout with a team competition! This time, teams sat in a single-file line and had to pass a banana down the line and back...using only their feet. Once the banana reached the front of the line again, the first person had to eat the banana and whistle before winning. I am very happy to report that Team 4 (my team) won this challenge. On Sunday, the challenge was a 10-length t-shirt relay race. Some extremely creative techniques were invented during this relay...it was quite entertaining. Team 3 won this challenge, leaving the "Training Trip Challenge Champion" up for grabs.
Sunday was similar to the day before. We had a tough workout in the morning and another in the afternoon. During the morning there were some unbelievably fast swims...we were kind of hoping other teams had secret cameras on deck. In the afternoon, the men lifted while the women swam. After practice, we had a "Bajan" barbecue at the hotel which consisted of vegetable rice, baked macaroni and cheese, salad and grilled chicken and fish. Under a beautiful setting sun, the barbecue bash was quite a celebration.
We have one more day and two more practices left here in Barbados.
