LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Duke freshman Michael DeVito recorded a 40th-place finish out of 265 in the men's junior epee division at the North American Cup on Saturday. Freshman classmate Ted Cho also finished among the top 40 percent with a 94th-place finish.
DeVito, a native of Ridgefield, Conn., went 5-1 in the opening round and then took down Michael Billinghurst, 15-8. His day ended following a narrow 15-13 defeat at the hands of Julian Johnson.
Cho, an Indianapolis, Ind., native, recorded winnings marks in the opening round with a 4-2 outing. He won his first bout of round two, 15-9 over John Culpepper, before falling 15-12 to Benjamin Riviere.
Duke will resume team competition next Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26-27, at the Philadelphia Invitational at Temple University.
