DURHAM, N.C. - This week's Iron Dukes member of the week is Dr. Elizabeth Goode of Mooresboro, N.C.
I am an Iron Dukes member because...
I am an Iron Duke member due to lifelong interest/participation in sports, Duke sports in particular. Duke Basketball is a passion and I am glad that camping out was not a prerequisite of Cameron attendance when I was in school.
How did your affiliation with the Iron Dukes and Duke Athletics begin?
My affiliation with the Iron Dukes began when I responded to an advertisement the organization placed in the alumni magazine.
My interest in Duke Athletics began around age six or seven when my father took me to a Duke Football game. I remember walking through the quad as if it were yesterday. Around the time we arrived at the church I announced "Dad, this is where I'm coming to school." When my young friends were all talking about movie stars, I was talking about Duke football players.
Why is supporting Duke student-athletes important to you?
I like to support Duke student-athletes because I believe, in general, that Duke exhibits an appropriate balance between academics and athletics. This certainly is not the case at every school.
What is your favorite part about visiting Duke's campus?
My favorite part about visiting Duke's campus in addition to seeing basketball games is attending chapel and getting to hear Dr. Wyncoop's wonderful interpretation of choral music.
What is your favorite Duke Athletics/Iron Dukes memory?
There have been so many thrills along the way that it is impossible to select a single favorite. The four National Championship games which I attended rank very high on the list.
