Blue Devils Set for First Road Contest of 2013
The seventh-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team (4-0, 1-0 ACC) hits the road for the first time this season to face No. 4 Maryland ... The Blue Devils are 1-0 this season against ACC opponents after dispatching Virginia Tech, 17-9, in the squad's season opener on Feb. 8 in Durham, N.C. ... Duke is coming off of four straight wins at home to start the spring.

Maryland Series History
Sunday's contest marks the 25th all-time meeting between Duke and Maryland with the Terrapins holding a 15-9 advantage in the all-time series ... The two ACC squads met twice in 2012, splitting those decisions. 

Last Time We Met
The last meeting between the two teams came in the semifinals of the 2012 ACC Championship ... Duke held the Terrapins scoreless for nearly 23 minutes to start the game but ultimately fell by a 12-3 score ... 2012 graduate Mollie Mackler made 12 stops in goal but the Blue Devils were outshot 28-13 in the loss ... Duke prevailed in the squads' regular season matchup in Durham, collecting a 10-9 victory ... The Blue Devils trailed by two goals early in the second half of that contest before mounting a 5-0 run ... Junior Maddy Morrissey paced the offense with three goals in the win.

Five current Blue Devils have recorded at least one point against Maryland in their careers ... Juniors Maddy Morrissey and Molly Quirke have each totaled four points against the Terrapins in three seasons ... Morrissey registered a hat trick in last year's 10-9 regular season win over Maryland ... Sophomore Taylor Trimble tallied three points against the Terps in 2012 with two goals in the regular season meeting and one in the ACC Championship semifinals ... Scouting the Terrapins
Maryland enters the weekend with a 2-0 ledger after topping Richmond, 20-7, in its season opener and defeating No. 2 Syracuse by a 19-11 score last weekend ... Katie Schwarzmann leads the Terps with 12 points 10 goals and two assists ... Schwarzmann recorded seven goals in the upset of Syracuse, while Taylor Cummings added five scores and Alex Aust four ... Cummings has also corraled a team-high 11 draw controls ... Maryland leads the ACC with 19.50 goals per game and a .574 shooting percentage ... In goal, Kasey Howard has made 15 saves and sports a 9.33 goals against average and a .517 save percentage.

Last Time Out
Following an 18-10 victory against Richmond on Feb. 15, Duke improved to 4-0 on the year with a 15-8 win over William & Mary Feb. 17 at Koskinen Stadium ... Nine different Blue Devils scored against the Tribe ... Senior Makenzie Hommel collected her third hat trick in four outings and also chipped in an assist for four points ... Duke outshot William & Mary by a 43-15 margin ... Redshirt junior Maddie Salamone and junior Taylor Virden each registered five draw controls to help the Blue Devils win the category, 15-10 ... Senior Kaitlin Gaiss tallied five saves in goal for Duke.

Blue Devils in the ACC Landscape
Duke leads the ACC in several categories through the first four games of the season ... The Blue Devils are tied with Boston College for first in the league in assists per game (8.00) ... The squad also leads the conference in ground balls per game (20.75), shots per game (38.50), caused turnovers per game (13.25) and shots on goal per game (31.50) ... Duke's .474 shooting percentage as a team currently ranks second in the ACC behind only Maryland.

Balanced Attack
Fourteen different Blue Devils have scored a goal and 11 players have notched at least one assist through the first four games of the season ... Nine Blue Devils have also recorded multi-goal games this spring ... In a 23-0 shutout of Presbyterian on Feb. 10, 13 different Duke players found the back of the net.

In the Month of February
Duke has played 46 games all-time in the second month of the year and is 41-5 all-time during the month ... The Blue Devils last lost a February contest in 2012 against then-No. 1 Northwestern.

Since the 2008 season, Duke is 37-32 against ranked teams ... The Blue Devils have lost just five times to teams ranked outside the top 10 in the past five years ... The 2012 season saw the Blue Devils compile a 6-7 ledger against ranked teams.

Scheduling the Best
Duke's 2013 slate currently features eight teams ranked in the top 20 of the IWLCA Coaches preseason poll ... The Blue Devils will host just three of those ranked opponents at home and will face five of the current ranked teams on the road.

Two Blue Devils on Tewaaraton Watch List
Juniors Maddy Morrissey and Taylor Virden were named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List, as announced Feb. 22 ... Duke has had at least two players named to the list each season since the award's inception in 2001 with Katie Chrest earning the honor in 2005.

Rookies Make Immediate Impact
Five Blue Devil freshmen have seen the field so far this season with rookie Kelci Smesko entering the starting lineup ... Smesko and classmate Maddy Acton each collected their first collegiate goals in the season opener against Virginia Tech ... Smesko has started all four contests this season at attack and has tallied 11 points on five goals and six assists, with the six helpers ranking her second on the squad ... Acton has recorded eight points (7g, 1a) to go with three ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers and owns the team's second-highest shooting percentage at .778.

Scoring Streaks
Six different Blue Devils have scored at least one point through the first four games of the season -- senior Makenzie Hommel, sophomores Kerrin Maurer, Brigid Smith and Taylor Trimble and freshmen Maddy Acton and Kelci Smesko ... Hommel, Maurer and Smith have also registered multiple goals in every game this spring.

Blue Devils Among ACC Leaders
Sophomore Gabby Moise leads the ACC with nine caused turnovers this season for an average of 2.25 per contest ... Classmate Brigid Smith also tops the conference stats with six free position goals (1.50 fpg/g) ... In goal, senior Kaitlin Gaiss' 6.75 goals against average through Duke's first four games ranks her second in the league.

Quick on the Draw
After four games, Duke leads its opponents in draw controls by a 67-40 margin ... Redshirt junior Maddie Salamone leads the squad with 21 draw controls this spring and recorded a career-high nine in the Blue Devils' season opener against Virginia Tech on Feb. 8 ... Junior Taylor Virden is also in double digits with 11 draw controls on the season.

Attack Duo Moving Up Career Lists
Senior Makenzie Hommel and sophomore Kerrin Maurer have both started the 2013 season in strong fashion ... Hommel leads Duke in goals (13) and ranks second in points (17) while Maurer is the team's leader in points (19) and assists (10) through the first four games ... Hommel needs just 21 points and Maurer 32 to reach the 100-point mark for their careers ... Maurer is also approaching the 50-assist mark with 34 in just her second season.
