Junior Christine Wixted is qualified to compete in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events after earning a pair of podium finishes and breaking two of her own school records two weeks ago at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Wixted, who hails from Greenwood Village, Colo., clocked the fastest time of the 100 breaststroke preliminary heat at the conference championships in a 59.95 performance. That time marked the first sub-one minute swim of her career in that event and gives her a 19th-place seeding heading into the NCAA Championships. Wixted also collected All-ACC honors in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:10.19 in the event finals, seeding her 22nd for the national meet.
Junior Lauren Weaver will join Wixted in Indianapolis after qualifying for the NCAA Championships field in the 50 freestyle. The native of Cincinnati, Ohio garnered All-ACC accolades for the first time in her career at this year's ACC Championships, finishing third in the event final. Weaver also tapped the wall at 22.27 in the preliminaries to break her own program record and earn a 22nd-place seeding for the NCAA Championships meet.
The 50 freestyle trials and finals are slated for Thursday, March 21, followed by the 100 breaststroke on Friday, March 22 and the 200 breaststroke on Saturday, March 23. All preliminaries sessions will be held at 11 a.m. while event finals will be contested each evening at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday's events will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
