GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following one of the best all-around seasons in school history, Duke University junior Chelsea Gray was named the ACC Co-Player of the Year on Thursday following a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

Gray was selected the Co-Player of the Year along with Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas and became the sixth Blue Devil in school history to receive ACC Player of the Year honors – Alana Beard (2002-04), Monique Currie (2005), Lindsey Harding (2007), Georgia Schweitzer (2000-01) and Chris Moreland (1987).

Gray, who is out of Manteca, Calif., was having a standout season in 2012-13 prior to getting injured in the first half against Wake Forest on Sunday, Feb. 17.  She suffered a dislocated kneecap and will miss the rest of the season, after starting the first 25 contests.  Gray was averaging 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals heading into game against the Demon Deacons.  She leads the ACC in assists and steals, while ranking sixth nationally in steals as well.

The 5-11 guard was on pace to set a Duke single-season record for steals with 89 in 25 contests, while posting three games with 10 or more assists.  At home against seventh-ranked Maryland, Gray registered a career-high 28 points, three assists, four steals and three rebounds to lead Duke to a 71-56 victory.

Gray helped lead Duke to a 27-2 overall record and a 17-1 league mark.  The 17 ACC wins set a new league record.  The Blue Devils equaled the best start in ACC history at 16-0 and led Duke to its fourth straight ACC regular season title.

The league’s head coaches voted on an ACC Player of the Year this season for the first time.  Alyssa Thomas was named the ACC Player of the Year by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel as well.

Duke will open the ACC Tournament on Friday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m., against the winner of the No. 8 seed N.C. State versus the No. 9 seed Clemson game at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
