DURHAM, N.C. – Junior diver Nick McCrory was named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season following a standout performance last week at the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.

Following an absence from the NCAA Championships last season during his training for the 2012 London Olympic Games, McCrory captured his third NCAA title on the 10-meter platform on the final evening of action in Indianapolis. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native totaled 495.90 points in the championship final, edging the field by over 40 points. McCrory’s highest-scoring dive came on an armstand in the fifth round, when he earned 91.20 points from the judges, including two 10.0s. He then closed his list with 86.70 points on an inward 3 ½ somersault.

In addition to winning his third national championship on the platform, McCrory also collected runner-up finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard competitions, securing him All-America honors in all three events. His performances on all three boards placed the Blue Devil men 17th out of 40 programs in the final team standings, with the 17th-place showing marking the highest finish for the men’s program during McCrory’s career at Duke.

Now a nine-time All-American across the three diving disciplines, he has advanced to the championship final of every event he has competed in at the NCAA Championships for his career. The 2012-13 campaign has seen him win an NCAA title, three All-America accolades and three Atlantic Coast Conference titles while becoming the most decorated diver in the history of the ACC with a total of seven conference diving crowns for his career.
