Blue Devil Trio Play in McDonald’s All-America Game
DURHAM, N.C.- Duke incoming recruits Oderah Chidom, Kendall Cooper and Rebecca Greenwell led the West Team to a 92-64 victory over the East on Thursday in the 2013 McDonald’s All-America game, which was played in the United Center in Chicago, Ill.
Greenwell, who is out of Owensboro, Ky., was the leading scorer for the West Team with eight points through nine minutes before leaving with a knee injury. The 6-1 guard hit 3-of-5 field goals and 2-of-3 from downtown, while grabbing two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Greenwell averaged 23.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.0 blocks for Owensboro Catholic. She drained a record 17 three-pointers in one game this season.
A product of Oakland, Calif., Chidom started for the West and pulled down eight rebounds in only 15 minutes of play. The 6-4 Chidom had two points, two blocks and two steals on the night. Chidom averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals per game for Bishop O’Dowd as a senior.
Coming off the bench, Cooper made her presence felt in the middle with three blocked shots, while tallying five rebounds and four points in 14 minutes. The 6-3 Carson, Calif., native added one steal as she hit 2-of-6 field goals. Cooper averaged 12.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.2 blocks, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals as a senior at St. Anthony.
The trio of Chidom, Cooper and Greenwell along with Kianna Holland are listed as the No. 2 ranked recruiting class in the nation. Adding the foursome along with the returning members of Duke’s NCAA Elite Eight and ACC Championship squad, the Blue Devils are expected to have a very talented roster for the 2013-14 campaign in Joanne P. McCallie’s seventh year at Duke.
