DURHAM, N.C. – Tim Gornik, a 2013 Duke graduate, posted a 5&4 win to reach the round of 16 at the 118th Amateur Championship in St. Andrews, Scotland, before falling in his afternoon match. Duke sophomore Mads Soegaard was eliminated in the round of 32 following a 2&1 loss.

In the morning session, Gornik collected his second 5&4 win over Sweden’s Pontus Gad to set up a fourth round matchup with England’s Neil Raymond, a 3&2 winner over Scotland’s Adam Dunton. Soegaard ran out of steam en route to a 2&1 loss to Jim Liu (America).

Neil Raymond collected an impressive 7&6 victory over Gornik to make the final eight of the event. Raymond took charge early on against Gornik and was 4up after six holes. He added three consecutive birdies from the 9th-11th and closed out the match when both players carded bogey fives on the 12th.
