DURHAM, N.C. – Five members of the Duke field hockey program have been invited to USA Field Hockey’s Junior National Camp following the conclusion of the Under-21 Women’s National Championship Tuesday in Norfolk, Va. The camp begins Wednesday, June 26 and continues through Friday, June 28 on the campus of Old Dominion University, with the selections for the 2013 Under-21 Junior World Cup team slated to be announced at the end of the two-day event.
Senior Paula Heimbach, junior Abby Beltrani, redshirt sophomore Lauren Blazing, sophomore Aileen Johnson and incoming freshman Heather Morris are among the athletes who will be vying for a spot on the U.S. under-21 national team that will compete at the Junior World Cup July 27-Aug. 4 in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
Johnson guided the North squad to the Under-21 national championship Tuesday, as her team edged the South squad, 3-2, in the title game. Duke head coach Pam Bustin oversaw the South team, which also featured Heimbach and sophomore Hannah Barreca. Blazing and Morris helped the Metro team earn a third-place finish at the five-day tournament, while Beltrani and sophomore Amanda Kim were members of the fourth-place West squad.
