DURHAM, N.C. – Four Blue Devils have earned spots on USA Field Hockey’s Under-21 junior national team following a busy couple of weeks of competition on the national scene.

Junior midfielder Abby Beltrani, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing, sophomore midfielder Aileen Johnson and freshman forward Heather Morris were selected to the Under-21 junior national squad, with Morris also holding eligibility for the Under-19 team. All four Blue Devils were invited to last week’s Junior National Camp in Norfolk, Va., after previously taking part in the Under-21 Women’s National Championship.

Beltrani recorded five points for Duke on one goal and three assists during the 2012 campaign. She was also among several Blue Devils who helped the U.S. qualify for the 2013 Junior World Cup with a third-place finish at the Junior Pan American Games last fall in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Blazing totaled 51 saves and posted a 1.99 goals against average in 13 games for the Blue Devils in 2012. Also a member of the U.S. squad at the 2012 Junior Pan American Games, she was recently named to USA Field Hockey’s 18-player roster for the 2013 Under-21 Junior World Cup, which will be contested July 27-Aug. 4 in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

Johnson will join Blazing in Germany later this month after also earning a spot on the Under-21 Junior World Cup roster. The Oceanport, N.J., native started 12 games for Duke last season, finishing the fall with three points.

A forward/midfielder with national team experience, Morris completed an impressive prep career, topping the 100-goal mark during her senior campaign and garnering all-league and all-area honors. She also set a school single-season record and ranked eighth in the country with 43 goals as a junior.
