DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University men’s soccer head coach John Kerr recently announced the addition of former Blue Devil Christopher Tweed-Kent to the coaching staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach. A 2012 graduate of Duke with a degree in mechanical engineering, Tweed-Kent will help the coaching staff with all aspects of the program.

Tweed-Kent joined the Duke men’s soccer squad as a sophomore as a walk-on in 2009 and made an immediate impact. A native of Pittsfield, Mass., he started 19 of the Blue Devils’ 21 matches as they advanced to the NCAA Tournament third round. Tweed-Kent tallied a goal and four assists, including the game-winning assist against No. 2 Maryland, in his inaugural campaign.

Playing primarily in the left midfield, Tweed-Kent started all but one game over the course of the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He registered a pair of goals and a team-best 11 assists in 2010. The 11 assists were tied for the most in the ACC and ranked seventh among Division I players.

Tweed-Kent turned in his best campaign as a senior, netting six goals and 12 assists for 24 points. His 12 helpers were tops in the ACC and third nationally as he helped lead the Blue Devils to the ACC Tournament semifinal and to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight season and 25th time overall. For his career, he played in 63 games with 60 starts and finished with nine goals and 27 assists for 45 points.

Equally as successful in the classroom, the tireless worker was a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection and was voted to the Capital One Academic All-America first team in 2011. He was active in the Duke and Durham community as well, serving as the co-President of ChangeEducate, a non-profit start-up that aims to teach students about poverty and encourage them to lead social change. He also participated in DukeEngage during his time at the university, traveling to Santiago, Chile for a community service trip the summer after his sophomore year.
