DURHAM, N.C. – As the 2013 regular season gets underway on Friday, Soccer America released its preseason top 25 poll on Wednesday with the Duke women’s soccer team listed No. 8 overall.  The ledger features six ACC squads in the top 10 heading into the season.  

Duke has now been selected in the top 10 in all three preseason ledgers -- No. 7 in the NSCAA, No. 8 by Soccer America and No. 8 by  

Taking the top slot is North Carolina, while Penn State, UCLA, Stanford, Notre Dame, Florida State, Virginia, Duke, Santa Clara and Wake Forest in the top 10.  San Diego State, BYU, Marquette, Georgetown, Michigan, Texas A&M, Maryland, California, West Virginia and Portland are ranked 10-20, while Florida, Baylor, UCF, Denver and Illinois close out the poll.  

Head coach Robbie Church and the Blue Devils return five starters and 22 letterwinners off the NCAA Elite Eight squad from a year ago that registered a 15-6-2 overall record.  Duke welcomes back 95 percent of its scoring, including nine student-athletes who scored one or more goals last year, including the top four scorers from a season ago.  

Duke will open the regular season on the road at 12th-ranked Texas A&M on Friday, Aug. 23.  The Blue Devils will close the weekend at South Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 25.  The first home contest will be in the Duke Nike Classic Sept. 6 and 8, which includes three top-10 ranked teams -- North Carolina, UCLA and Duke.
