DURHAM, N.C.—On the day the Duke men’s soccer team makes its 2013 season debut, senior defender Sebastien Ibeagha has picked up one final preseason honor as a preseason All-America selection by Soccer America. It is the third organization that has listed the Blue Devil captain among its top players for the 2013 campaign.
A four-year starter at center back, Ibeagha also was named to the College Soccer News Preseason All-America first team as well as to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Best XI first team. Most recently, the Texas native was one of 34 players selected to the MAC Hermann Award Watch List.
Ibeagha, a two-time All-ACC selection, is the reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year after leading Duke to nine shutouts and an impressive 0.70 goals against average in 2012. An offensive threat as well, he led all Duke scorers last season with five goals and two assists. Duke’s 0.70 goals against average was the lowest since 1987 and ranked second in the ACC and ninth nationally.
Overall, Ibeagha has started all 51 games he has played at Duke, played over 4,500 minutes. He has six goals and 15 points overall and has been a part of 20 shutouts in those 51 contests.
The Blue Devils kick off the 2013 campaign Friday evening against Rutgers in the John Rennie Nike Invitational at 7:30 p.m. Duke hosts Northeastern in the tournament finale Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
