When did you start playing lacrosse?
MS: My oldest sister, Meaghan, was an avid lacrosse player, and when I was younger I always wanted to follow in her footsteps. I started playing recreational lacrosse when I was in third grade. I played many other sports at the time, but lacrosse quickly became my favorite. I joined my Metro Lacrosse club team in fifth grade, which was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
MS: My goal is to help the Duke women’s lacrosse team succeed within the Atlantic Coast Conference and nationally and to create lifelong friendships with my teammates and others throughout the Duke University community.
What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
MS: Being one of 44 players selected nationally to participate in Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Game in Towson, Maryland July 6, 2013.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
MS: It is hard to pinpoint one person who has had the most impact on my life because as the youngest of five children, I’ve been able to watch and learn from all my older siblings. They have all contributed to my success in a different way, and having them as supporters and role models to look up to my whole life has been such a privilege. My brother Billy was a varsity swimmer at Boston College, and my sister Tara currently plays on the Women’s Soccer Team at the University of Miami. I have attended so many of their events, and it was a secret dream of mine to be the third Schwitter to play in the ACC. It will be a lot of fun to forever talk about our Boston College, Miami, and Duke rivalry.
Favorite athlete: My grandfather (Bill Schwitter – played basketball and baseball at Manhattan
College and went on to play semi-professional baseball)
Hobbies: Yoga, tennis, golf, skiing/snowboarding
Favorite movie: Bridesmaids
Favorite TV show: Modern Family
Favorite book: The Hunger Games
Favorite musician: Taylor Swift (and Miranda Sings)
What do you plan to major in? Undecided, but I am really interested in Math and Science.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself living and working in the New York City area, and hopefully I will still be involved in the game of lacrosse in some way.
To be a part of the Duke women’s lacrosse program is … a dream come true. From the first time I met the Duke coaching staff and the players on the team, I felt that if I were lucky enough to be given the chance to play here, it would be a perfect fit for me. I love the campus and the overall school spirit the Duke students have for all the athletic teams.
