GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC named graduate student Juliet Bottorff Performer of the Week Tuesday, after her 2013 season debut at the Adidas XC Challenge Friday, Sept. 20. The weekly honor recognizes the exceptional performance of one female student-athlete and one male student-athlete from an ACC school. The nomination comes one day after Bottorff was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week.

Bottorff opened her 2013 season in spectacular fashion, recording a course record of 16:28.9 on the WakeMed Soccer Campus cross country course. The Newark, Del., native overcame stout competition, finishing 27 seconds ahead of 2013 Outdoor 10,000m All-American Joanna Thompson and 46 seconds ahead of third-place finisher and teammate, freshman Wesley Frazier. Bottorff led the Blue Devils to a team victory over conference and regional opponents NC State and UNC.

Bottorff has received a number of conference honors during her tenure with Duke. In 2012, Bottorff earned All-ACC honors after a third-place finish at the conference championship meet. On Sept. 4, 2012, Bottorff garnered ACC Performer of the Week honors after winning the season-opening Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. The graduate student also received the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year award for her efforts in the classroom.

Duke’s fourth-ranked women’s cross country team returns to competition Friday, Oct. 4, when the Blue Devils travel to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational.
