TULSA, Okla. – The Duke men’s tennis team concluded action at the 2013 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships Friday following a week’s worth of play at one of the fall’s largest collegiate tournaments.

After notching an 8-4 upset of the second-ranked doubles tandem in the country in Thursday’s first round, the 25th-ranked pair of junior Raphael Hemmeler and sophomore Bruno Semenzato saw their run in the doubles main draw come to an end Friday evening. The Blue Devil duo came up short against No. 17 Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini of Virginia Tech, falling 8-3.

Earlier in the day, sophomore Michael Redlicki took to the courts in the second round of singles consolation play. The 22nd-ranked player in the ITA’s preseason poll, Redlicki started out by winning a first-set tiebreaker against No. 95 Daniil Proskura of Alabama, 7-6 (7), but was forced to retire in the second set due to illness.

In total, eight different players represented Duke in Tulsa, with Redlicki, Hemmeler and senior Fred Saba competing in the singles main draw and Hemmeler and Semenzato teaming up in the doubles main draw.

“As a team, we certainly have some areas of improvement in order for us to reach our potential,” said head coach Ramsey Smith. “In their debut performance Bruno and Rafa had a big doubles win over the second-ranked team in the country, and I was happy to see them play well together. Bruno is playing at a very high level, and has put together quite an impressive fall so far.”

Up next, the Blue Devils will send players to the Wake Forest Fall Invitational Oct. 11-13 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
