DURHAM, N.C.—Coming off of a NCAA Championships appearance in his first season in a Duke singlet, redshirt sophomore Conner Hartmann will begin the 2013-14 campaign ranked 20th by InterMat’s preseason rankings.
Hartmann, after battling back from an early season injury, finished the year with a 20-11 overall record at 197 pounds. The native of Port Orchard, Wash. placed in five tournaments overall and captured top honors at the Hokie Open. Hartmann took sixth at the prestigious Southern Scuffle and finished third at the ACC Championships after missing two months of action due to injury.
In addition to his success on the mat, Hartmann was equally successful in the classroom as he garnered All-Academic recognition from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. He is one of two ACC wrestlers and one of four sophomores among the top 20 in the 197-pound division.
Duke begins the season Nov. 2 at The Citadel Open. The Blue Devils will make their home debut Nov. 23 against perennial power Ohio State at 7 p.m.
